Some companies, such as Wawa, have still been able to open new stores by shifting employees between locations, however Royal Farms is so new to the region that there are no experienced employees close by.

“Wawa, for example, they didn’t have the right amount of employees for their store, but they were able to borrow employees for other stores,” the mayor explained, describing the recent grand opening of the Wawa location at Route 70 and Duquesne Boulevard. “They were able to compensate them for travel, and they were able to do that because there are a bunch of Wawas around – they’re everywhere.”

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-18692" class="size-large wp-image-18692" src="https://www.shorebeat.com/brick/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/royal_farms_brick_nj_store_083-1024x683.jpg" alt="The Royal Farms store in Brick, N.J., prior to opening, Sept. 2021.
