A specialty supermarket based in Monmouth County will move in to the space formerly occupied by Pathmark.<\/p>\n

Livoti\u2019s Old World Market<\/a> announced over the recent Thanksgiving holiday that they would be opening a fifth location in Brick Township. The market currently operates stores in Aberdeen, Marlboro, Freehold and Middletown, all located in Monmouth County. The Brick location will hold a liquor license \u2013 the same license that was slated to be utilized by Corrado\u2019s Market, another specialty supermarket that had been poised to occupy the space before a dispute over back rent ended the venture before it started.<\/p>\n

The store will be located in Laurel Square, the shopping center which once housed Pathmark and K-mart before those chains went bankrupt. Laurel Square is located in the northern portion of town between routes 70 and 88.<\/p>\n

Mayor John Ducey said Livoti\u2019s has targeted an opening date for March 2024. Ashley Furniture will also be moving into the plaza, though a date has yet to be announced. The two new additions will revive what was once a thriving shopping center that nearly emptied completely following the exit of Pathmark, which served as its anchor.<\/p>\n

\u201cLovoti\u2019s, as well as a liquor store, will be going into the old Pathmark and a couple of spots next to it,\u201d said Ducey. \u201cThe [plaza] will be totally filled on the left side when you\u2019re looking at it from Route 88.\u201d<\/p>\n

Livoti\u2019s Old World Market was founded by John Livoti in Aberdeen in 2010.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrowing up in the Italian supermarket business, and with a strong passion for what he was doing for a living, John decided to open a store of his own,\u201d the business\u2019s website says, with his daughter, his son-in-law, his two sons, his uncle and his wife all playing a role in the venture.<\/p>\n

All of the locations have garnered rave reviews online, with all of the stores featuring a gourmet Italian deli, plus bakery, produce, grocery, dairy, frozen, seafood, pizza, meat, and floral departments. The business has been steadily expanding, with the Marlboro location opening in 2014, followed by Middletown in 2017 and the Freehold location in 2021.<\/p>\n
