Brick\u2019s forthcoming \u201cSuperdome\u201d indoor sports complex received approval last week before the township\u2019s planning board, in a hearing during which its manager and investors pitched a slightly larger \u201cbubble\u201d to better accommodate properly-sized playing surfaces and add a daycare facility to the overall property.<\/p>\n

Shorebeat asked the team behind the complex if they could share any renderings of what the final project \u2013 construction for which can get underway as soon as the planning board memorializes its approval at the next meeting \u2013 and they were kind enough to oblige. This article contains all of the images the team sent, and gives a great idea of what the final product will look like.<\/p>\n

Just to recap the results of last week\u2019s approval, the \u201cbubble\u201d portion of the Superdome will be expanded by 10-feet in width to better accommodate the regulation playing surfaces for soccer and lacrosse. Peter Tasca, the general manager of the Superdome, said he wanted to give the \u201cbubble\u201d more breathing room after consulting with manufacturers of such structures, and after going over lessons learned at his existing facility in North Jersey, located in Waldwick borough, Bergen County.<\/p>\n

While it will be known as the Brick \u201cSuperdome\u201d (we\u2019ve also seen \u201cSuperdome South\u201d mentioned) the complex will actually consist of two buildings: the \u201cbubble\u201d like structure that will hold a playing field for various sports, as well as a traditionally-constructed building that will house basketball courts and a number of other sports and fitness features and amenities, plus an outdoor volleyball court. The hard-built structure will remain the same size as originally proposed, but the dome will grow from 68,400 square feet to 72,000 square feet in area. A \u201cmezzanine\u201d area will also be added in order to house the daycare center, which will be run by an existing large provider. Negotiations with providers are ongoing.<\/p>\n

According to the planning documents submitted at the hearing, the entirety of the parcel on which the site will be built \u2013 the former Foodtown and Bradley\u2019s shopping plaza on Route 70 \u2013 measures 10.9 acres, of which the sports dome will take up 5.174 acres on one lot.<\/p>\n

The other lot, which measures approximately the same acreage, is owned by developer Jack Morris and is home to an Aldi supermarket, with more retail space expected to be constructed in the future. A restaurant pad measuring 4,300 square feet is also planned on Morris\u2019 portion of the property, but a tenant for that space has not yet been announced.<\/p>\n
