The victim, Kerry Rollason, 56, of Toms River, was the owner of the home where an armed standoff occurred following a separate murder, ending when the victim shot and killed himself.

Police only discovered Rollason had been murdered after the standoff ended at his Ravenwood Drive home. According to prosecutors, detectives believe she was murdered in her home by gunfire before his remains were moved to another home in Jackson, where his body was dismembered and placed into garbage bags. Jared Krysiak, 34, of Brick, remains on the run and is accused of hindering apprehension and desecration of human remains; he is not charged with having committed the murder itself.

The saga surrounding the complex chain of events began with the killing of Gabriella Caroleo, 25, of Seaside Heights, which occurred in Manchester Township on June 27, 2024. Maxwell Johnston, 35, of Manchester, was suspected in that killing, and was located by police and U.S. Marshals several days later in the Ravenwood Drive home in Toms River, where he had allegedly been hiding with the help of Elizabeth Mascarelli, 29, of Seaside Heights.

Elizabeth Mascarelli (Photo: Ocean County Jail)

When police arrived at the home, Krysiak, along with Danielle Bolstad, 42, of Barnegat, and Jarred Palumbo, 36, of Manchester, exited the residence before the standoff began. They had previously been charged with hindering apprehension.

After the dust settled at the scene and investigators began probing the events leading to the first murder, they came upon evidence that another murder had been committed in the Toms River home July 3, prosecutors said in a statement. To that end, law enforcement “came into possession of information indicating that evidence of that murder might be found at a property in Jackson Township,” the statement said. On July 12, detectives and forensic teams descended on a home on Toms River Road in Jackson, where they “discovered numerous body parts in black bags along with additional evidence connected to the murder.”

Detectives executed another court-authorized search warrant on the Ravenwood Drive residence. As a result, Detectives discovered a defaced .22 caliber handgun as well as additional evidence that the murder had been committed at that location, the statement said.

On July 13, 2024, the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted a postmortem examination of the body parts, and was able to identify the victim as the owner of the Ravenwood Drive residence – Rollason. The medical examiner concluded that the cause of Rollason’s death was multiple gunshot wounds in addition to blunt force trauma, and the manner of death to be homicide.

The expanded investigation revealed that Johnston was responsible for the murder of Rollason at the Ravenwood Drive residence, authorities said. It was also determined that the firearm found at the Ravenwood Drive residence belonged to Mascarelli. Additionally, Mascarelli, Bolstad, and Krysiak allegedly assisted Johnston with dismembering Rollason’s body, and assisted Johnston in disposing of the body in the Jackson Township home.

Palumbo was taken into custody without incident July 13; he was charged and released. Bolstad was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she is presently lodged pending a detention hearing. Mascarelli was served with the charges on a complaint at the Ocean County Jail, where she is being held.

Krysiak, however, has not yet been taken into custody, and is considered a fugitive from justice. A warrant for his arrest has been issued and his name has been entered in the National Crime Information Center database, prosecutors said in their statement.

Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer urges anyone in possession of information related to this investigation to contact Detective Denis Mitchell of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027, extension 2476, or Detective James Carey of the Toms River Township Police Department at 732-349-0150.

A Brick man is being sought by authorities, who identified him as one of several suspects involved in the gruesome dismemberment of the remains of a man who was murdered earlier this month.
