According to the popularized rules of the activity, once one is challenged, he or she has 24 hours to dump the ice bucket over their head and donate $10 to a charity supporting ALS, or decline the dumping of ice and donate $100.<\/p>\n<p>While some have brushed off the challenge as being silly, it has worked in generating money towards ALS. According to the ALS Association, between July 29 and Aug. 12, the association and its 38 chapters have received $4 million in donations compared to $1.12 million during the same time period last year, adding over 70,000 donors.<\/p>\n<p>ALS is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alsa.org\/news\/archive\/als-ice-bucket-challenge.html\" target=\"_blank\">neurodegenerative disease<\/a> which, currently, is always fatal.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><div class=\"fb-share-button fcbkbttn_large_button \" data-href=\"https:\/\/shorebeat.com\/brick\/2014\/08\/brick-mayor-ducey-takes-the-ice-bucket-challenge\/\" data-type=\"button_count\" data-size=\"large\"><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s always something interesting happening at Summerfest.
