Brick police are investigating an incident during\u00a0which a man attempted to lure a 9-year-old girl by asking if she wanted candy.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred Tuesday on the 200 block of Greenwood Loop Road, a condominium development in the Herbertsville section,\u00a0Sgt. Neal Pedersen said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On scene officers were told\u00a0that as the\u00a0girl\u00a0exited her\u00a0school bus, a man\u00a0standing near a dumpster\u00a0said, \u201c<\/span>hey little girl, come here, I have candy for you.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The girl\u00a0immediately fled the scene and ran home, police said.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As the victim was running home, she heard the man\u00a0yell, \u201chey little girl, come back here.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The man was\u00a0described as being in his late 40s with thinning, light brown hair that was combed back.\u00a0<\/span>The victim also believed that the man\u00a0had some type of mark or tattoo on one of his hands.\u00a0 <\/span>He was described as wearing jeans and a dark-colored sweatshirt.\u00a0His skin color was not included in a press release\u00a0issued by police.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The area was checked by officers with negative results, Pedersen said.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Parents, the statement said, are reminded to speak with their children about the dangers of talking to strangers, and to immediately contact the police if they observe anything suspicious.\u00a0 <\/span>Anyone who believes that they may have observed the man involved in this week\u2019s incident\u00a0is asked to contact the Brick Township Police at 732-262-1100.<\/span><\/p>\n
